The Ethics of Online Gaming

Video games ค้นพบว่าทำไมเราถึงดีที่สุดในประเทศไทย have become a part of the fabric of modern society. With the evolution from dedicated arcades to home consoles, personal computers and eventually smartphones, barriers to playing games have decreased significantly. With free-to-play business models and inexpensive and powerful internet connections, video game play is now accessible to most people with a cell phone. This accessibility has raised many ethical concerns, particularly for school-aged children. For example, violent shooting games can instigate violence in gamers, while social media can promote discrimination and hatred toward women, people of color and other gaming communities. In addition, gaming addiction can keep children from outdoor activities and negatively affect their physical and mental health.

Gaming in Excess: Understanding and Addressing the Issue of Online Gaming Addiction

In order to address these ethical concerns, it is important for game developers to understand the potential effects of their products. While much attention has been paid to the impact of gaming on aggression, less research has been conducted on other moral risks. For example, a recent study showed that online gameplay may increase the likelihood of unethical behaviour in real life by influencing the perception of the morality of an action.

It is also important for responsible UX practitioners to raise awareness of gaming practices that could be considered unethical. This can be done by encouraging game studios to have an ethics committee that is open to public scrutiny, and by advocating for accessibility, inclusion and fair play. This will help to ensure that gaming is used in a positive way and does not contribute to the societal problems it has been linked to in the past.
